The "Sinbad"
- a Nesting Dinghy' for your yacht.

Principal dimensions:

        L.O.A. 3.08 m (10' 1")
	Beam 1.43 m (4' 8")
	Sail area 4.16 m2 (45 sqft)

	Length after taking apart: 1.71 m (5' 7").

Construction:
Material: 6mm (1/4") Marine plywood
Method: Epoxy stitch and glue (taped seam)

This dinghy has been designed from the outset as a 'nesting' dinghy. She combines being a usefully sized tender with modest deck space requirements (1.71 m x 1.43 m (5' 7" x 4' 8")) in its take-apart and stowed form.

She has sufficient beam for stability, without affecting her rowing performance.

You can build the dinghy without a construction cradle on carefully levelled chocks. It is important to check levels often so there is no twist.

Detailed building instructions are included with the plans, illustrating the various tasks in easy to follow steps.
These instructions also illustrate some simple supports cut from particle board, that will ensure additional accuracy.
Control of the boat's shape is assisted by the interior fit-out consisting of aft buoyancy tanks, mid-thwart/daggerboard case assembly and the forepeak tank.

You may of course build this dinghy as a one-piece if your foredeck space allows carrying a fullsize hard dinghy.
Likewise, if you just want to have a reasonably sized, easy to build and sail, knock-about dinghy - leave it in one piece.
Sails:
The sail plan above shows the boat with a boomless sprit sail. She has a free-standing mast.

There are hardly any shop bought fittings needed for rigging her. A daggerboard and lifting rudder are all you need for the sailing version. The spars are short and can additionally be sleeved so they can be taken apart for stowing inside the boat.

Propulsion:
She has been designed to take a short shaft outboard motor. Recommended is 3.3 HP, but if you beef up the transom she will carry a 5 HP motor.
Rowlocks may be fitted as either primary means of propelling her or as a back-up to the motor.

If no sail is going to be set, the internal fit-out can be simplified by omitting the daggerboard case and if you don't require a take-apart dinghy, construction is simplified even more..
